Food is Fuel – Try it! (by Dr. Geoff Abrams)

Have you ever found yourself in a position where you were starving for food, but you didn’t know what to make let alone it be healthy?

So many of us are caught up with the day to day responsibilities that we often overlook our diets as a contributor for our successes or failures throughout life.

Truth is that FUEL is what drives us.  Ask any anyone who has competed at an athletic event and it was all about what they ate before, during and after their competitive race that made the difference.  If we are nutrient deficient we cramp in the race or run out of energy.  Same holds true in the business arena.

When you skip meals or make poor food choices you are running on a deficit.  This often leads to becoming fatigued, irritable and lethargic.  You start to make poor decisions and become unpleasant to be around.   You become that IT person that everyone avoids or talks about.  Conversely, if you want a raise, a better product line, or even meet a new mate, one place to start is by making an investment into your health bank account.

One of the five pillars of the health foundation is your diet. Listed below is a simple recipe that I use often in order to get REAL food into my body that is extremely nutrient dense.  It has all the greens (antioxidants and phytochemicals) to help lower the inflammation rates in the body as well as help to boost the immune system.  It’s what I call a FIVE STAR meal.  It is quick to make, healthy, inexpensive, immune boosting and GOOD!  So when you are in that hunger state fight the urge and surpass the local fast food routine and put a deposit in your health account with the recipe below.

Recipe as Follows:
  • 3-4 tablespoons of Cold Pressed Organic Olive Oil
  • 3 cloves of organic garlic diced up
  • 2 teaspoons of organic cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon of organic parsley
  • 1/2 red organic onion
  • 1 head of organic green leaf kale
  • 1 cup of organic cannellini beans
  • 4 individual stocks of organic cellery
Always add some protein as a side dish to the meal such as Salmon, Halibut, Turkey or some grass fed meat.  Also you can add a little parmiagiano reggiano cheese to a taste on top. Cook on low heat for 8-10 minutes.

Remember as with business the old adage goes that “If you fail to plan then YOU plan to fail.” The same holds true with your food.  Be a forward thinker/planner so you will stay ahead of the pack and come out on top.

  1. Definitely true I went running the other day and I cramped up and I could tell I wasn’t able to perform at my peak. Now that I think about it I’ve been less than healthy with my diet over the last few weeks. You have to eat right and eat 5 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones to keep your digestion constantly going. I read that the more hungry you feel going into a meal, the more of the fat from that meal that your body will pack away because your body is in “starve mode” since you haven’t eaten in a while, so you have to constantly eat a little instead of randomly eating a lot. Another good snack is to throw 2 cups of ice, a banana, strawberries, blueberries, peanuts, maybe spinach, and low fat milk and yogurt in a blender and make a smoothie.
